Gustav Klimt was a unique artist and this course looks at all aspects of his work including his lesser known landscapes and private paintings and compares the innovative architecture of Otto Wagner with that of Adolf Loos. Klimt was a leader of The Secession, a group of artists, architects and craftspeople who rebelled against antiquated ideas and decisively influenced the breakthrough of modernism in Vienna at the turn of the century. This course provides an excellent introduction to this special period in European art and architecture.
