Situated on the banks of the River Ribble in close proximity to the Forest of Bowland, Alston Hall is an ideal base to explore from, and look for, the very wide range of birds that occur across these diverse habitats.
On this course we visit the moorlands and forests of the Forest of Bowland to identify the different habitats there, the birds that they support and investigate and discuss conservation issues affecting these areas. We also make an expedition on foot from Alston Hall along the banks of the Ribble to find the birds that make the river and its banks their home. The emphasis of this course is on listening to and looking at birds - the walks only cover a few miles each day over easy terrain and prior knowledge not necessary.
